To successfully complete the air flotation process, relying solely on the air flotation machine is far from sufficient. A considerable amount of chemical reagents is also required, leveraging their respective functionalities to enhance the air flotation efficiency. In addition to selecting the appropriate chemical reagents, it is imperative that they are applied during the pretreatment stage; otherwise, the effectiveness may be compromised.

In the process of air flotation, the appropriate coagulant should be added to the sewage first, which can not only change the hydrophilic property of the suspended particles in the sewage, but also make the small particles in the sewage flocculate into larger flocs, so that it is easier to adsorb and intercept the bubbles and accelerate the particle flotation.

Secondly, the flotation machine is also one of the chemical solvents used in air flotation. When the polar groups of the flotation agent are adsorbed on the surface of hydrophilic suspended particles, the non-polar groups will face the water, promoting the conversion of hydrophilic substances into hydrophobic substances, which further adhere to microbubbles, forming a stable scum layer.

To enhance the water-tightness of suspended particles during the air flotation process, an appropriate amount of coagulant can be added to the wastewater, which significantly improves the floatability of the particles. Additionally, inhibitors can temporarily or permanently suppress the flotation properties of certain substances, without hindering the upward movement of the target suspended particles.

The chemical agents mentioned above are nearly sufficient for wastewater flotation. Additionally, a pH adjuster should be included to regulate the pH level of the wastewater. This plays a crucial role in improving the dispersion of bubbles in water and enhances the adhesion between suspended particles and bubbles, thereby optimizing the flotation efficiency.
