On September 15, the 15th Urban and Rural Water Environment Governance Forum themed Innovation · Breaking New Ground kicked off in Hangzhou. The opening ceremony was presided over by Researcher Yang Min from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Qu Jiuhui attended the ceremony and delivered a keynote speech titled Towards a New Golden Age of Environmental Technology and Industry.The project Sedimentation and Air Flotation System of Weifang Meicun Water Plant Expansion Project, submitted by Gongyuan Environmental, was selected into the 2026 PracticalCases of Urban and Rural Water Environment Governance and awarded a certificate of honor.

Constructed in 1989 and covering an area of 120 mu, Meicun Water Purification Plant was officially put into operation in 1992. In recent years, with the steady annual growth of water consumption in the central urban area of Weifang City, the domestic and industrial water demand has exceeded the actual water supply capacity of Weifang Water Supply Company. Problems such as insufficient water pressure and even water outages have occurred in some areas, especially during the peak water supply period in summer. The original water supply capacity can no longer meet the living needs of citizens and has adversely affected their quality of life.To thoroughly resolve this long-standing problem during summer water supply peaks and effectively meet the growing water demand of the urban area in the future, Weifang Water Supply Company launched the sedimentation and air flotation system project for the Weifang Meicun Water Plant Expansion Project in July 2022 with a total investment of approximately 500 million yuan.

Overall designed by Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., the project with equipment supplied, installed and commission-guided by Gongyuan Environmental was renovated based on the original water purification process and connected to the grid for operation in May 2023. The project features a treatment capacity of 125,000 tons per day, raising the plant’s daily water supply capacity from 100,000 cubic meters to 200,000 cubic meters, with the corresponding water treatment capacity upgraded to 200,000 cubic meters per day.

Test results show that the removal rate of non-settling algae of this project is over 95%, and the water turbidity is no more than 1 NTU.
